The team

The structured finance team’s primary focus is leading, structuring and negotiating Lightsource bp’s financings through both project level and corporate level debt, as well as leading M&A and divestments across our operational jurisdictions.

In addition, the structured finance team works closely with the global business in making investment decisions.

What You’ll do (the role)

Summary

This role is primarily focused on the quantitative analysis needed to support investment decisions, debt raising and M&A processes globally. This requires a clear understanding of all aspects of solar and financing including (but not limited to) power markets, development processes, engineering, project finance structures, corporate debt structures, debt financing processes, derivative instruments, tax and accounting.

Duties and responsibilities

Financing

• Take ownership of the qualitative aspects of project and portfolio financings
• Analysis of preferred financing solutions on individual asset/portfolio basis
• Analysis and implementation of project specific hedging requirements, through FX/Inflation/IRS products
• Scope and management of required project advisors in conjunction with cross-functional support
• Review and analysis all project relevant documentation
• Production and review of required information memorandums and investment papers

Investment Decisions

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain regional specific models and processes used by regional development teams to make investment decisions
• Have a clear understanding of power markets, engineering implications, tax, accounting and project financing in all our operational jurisdictions
• Review investment papers and models prepared by regional development teams
• Collaborate with regional development teams to assess investment opportunities
• Collaborate with regional development teams to ensure bankable solutions, whilst highlighting key deal issues and areas of exposure

Acquisitions

• Take ownership of the asset valuation
• Coordinate and collaborate with different matter experts to determine the asset valuation
• Perform investor due diligence processes and managing external advisors where required
• Prepare investment papers of for senior management
• Assisting in execution of M&A transaction

Divestments

• Prepare IM’s and models for divestment processes
• Coordinate and collaborate with different matter experts to maximise asset valuation
• Determine the optimal divestment strategies to maximise profit
• Manage external advisors where required

Who we’re looking for

Experience

• Demonstrable experience within the financial sector with strong analytical and quantitative skills as well as project finance knowledge
• An interest in renewable energy is an advantage but not a requirement
• Advance excel financial modelling capabilities, proficient in VBA and proven ability to work well with different teams

Personal & Technical Skills

• Able to build and run pro-forma financial models for raising project finance, making investment decisions and M&A valuations
• Strong communication skills including the ability to explain complex concepts to key stakeholders
• Able to draft and prepare presentation materials including deal teasers, management presentations, and other supporting documentation and analysis
• A high standard of work and attention to details
• Able to work under pressure and with tight deadlines
• Proven reliability and ability to cope with last-minute schedule changes
• High motivation, flexible can-do attitude, entrepreneurial “self-starter” mindset and problem-solving capabilities
• Fluency in English is essential, other languages is an advantage
• Highly organised, plan ahead and be comfortable delivering complex projects to tight deadlines.
• Detail orientated, comfortable querying information received and able to take accountability for the accuracy and quality of models across the board, i.e. including those not operated by self
• Thrive in a fast moving and growing business – continually challenging how things are done in the interest of improving the systems, processes and the quality of models.
