What you’ll do (the role)
Summary
The APAC Energy Markets team plays a critical role in securing revenue streams to drive value and manage market risk for Lightsource bp’s APAC renewable electricity generation and storage portfolio.
As the Head of Analytics and Optimisation, you will lead market analysis activities and the commercial evaluation of portfolio optimisation strategies for Lightsource bp’s fleet of assets. In particular, you will play a key role in driving the commercialisation of our growing hybrid and stand-alone storage portfolio in the NEM, and other markets as opportunities evolve.
You will be a senior member of the APAC Energy Markets team with an integral role in managing and supporting the development of both the analysts, and the broader team.
Duties and responsibilities
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Overseeing the market analytics function, setting standards for analytic activities and processes, and ensuring delivery of robust analytical insights across electricity and environmental product markets in APAC.
- Developing and evaluating strategies to optimise asset and portfolio performance, and revenue and risk management outcomes.
- Identifying, evaluating and pricing innovative hedging structures and bidding strategies aligned with portfolio objectives, risk metrics, plant capabilities and revenue portfolio objectives.
- Proactive monitoring and reporting on generation and storage asset portfolio performance, including position management, identifying areas for improvement and strategic adjustment.
- Managing interfaces with third party services providers including forecasting, optimizers and bidding and trading services
- Developing tools and capabilities to enhance analytical scope, rigor and fit for purpose reporting requirements.
- Supporting the execution of short- and longer-term offtake contracts and hedges to manage market risks and hedging objectives.
- Monitoring market trends, conditions, price outlook and regulatory changes and evaluating these impacts on Lightsource bp’s operational and development portfolio.
- Contributing to the management and development of a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, growth and accountability.
Who we’re looking for
Knowledge/ Experience
- Comprehensive understanding and experience in the National Electricity Market in Australia is a pre-requisite. WEM or other APAC market experience is highly regarded.
- Significant experience and capability in energy market analytic functions, particularly focused on utility scale renewables and storage experience.
- Prior experience in electricity and environmental product trading and/or portfolio optimisation and structuring of complex energy transactions (including energy storage).
- Experience in evaluating strategies and bidding BESS systems in the NEM is highly regarded
- Highly developed analytical and commercial acumen, with a track record of identifying and evaluating opportunities, risks, and structures to support energy development and portfolio optimisation.
- Highly numerate with advanced Excel skills and some coding (python, R etc) expected.
- Prior experience in managing and developing teams, with a focus on fostering a collaborative environment
- Experience working cross functionally to deliver results
- Relevant degree in data analytics, engineering, commerce or a related field.
