What you’ll do (the role)
Summary
Lightsource bp’s Commercial Engineering Team provides technical support across all areas of the global organisation and for projects being developed across the globe. This role includes being accountable for the HV engineering aspects of specific projects in Australia & New Zealand across all phases of a project including early development, pre-construction, and construction.
Responsibilities of the Role
- Manage engineering activities related to MV/HV substations and HV connection infrastructure for renewable energy projects.
- Provide advice on the most appropriate HV connection arrangement for each project and lead the development of concept designs as required.
- Prepare and review HV substation design deliverables, feasibility studies, programmes and cost estimates.
- Prepare and review HV substation general arrangement layouts, single line diagrams (SLDs), protection and control designs, earthing and lightning protection designs and technical specifications for HV substation equipment.
- Prepare and review load flow studies, fault level calculations and protection coordination studies.
- Manage the development and customisation of Technical Appendices for OEM Supply Agreements, EPC, ICP and O&M Contracts, including responsibility matrixes.
- Review OEM, EPC, ICP and O&M Contractor bids, reports, orders, etc for compliance with Principal’s Requirements and Contract appendices.
- Participate in design review and safety in design review meetings as required.
- Attend site visits, FAT, SAT and commissioning as required.

Experience & Knowledge Required
- 5+ years of experience in HV substation design and delivery, ideally in the Renewable Energy industry working as a design engineer/manager for a consultancy, NSP and/or EPC Contractor.
- Experience with large-scale Solar PV, BESS, Wind and Hybrid grid connection projects.
- Experience liaising and working with NSPs, EPC contractors and renewable energy developers.
- Good knowledge of OEM, EPC, ICP and O&M contracts, including Technical Appendices.
- Good knowledge of transmission and distribution systems and standards.
- Familiarity with solar PV and BESS technologies and constituent components.
- Familiarity with SCADA, Cybersecurity and SOCI Act requirements in Australia.
- Good experience working with Grid Connection Agreements and Generator Performance Standards.
- Good knowledge of the main players in the industry (OEMs, Design Consultants, EPCs, NSPs).
- Good knowledge of MV/HV equipment including switchgear, transformers, protection systems, underground and overhead lines and other MV/HV equipment.
- Familiarity with commissioning testing for renewable installations.
Skills Required
- Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to successfully problem solve engineering and techno-economic challenges on projects.
- Excellent communication skills to communicate complex technical issues with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Able to assess risks on HV connections, projects execution and advise internal teams on solutions to mitigate.
- Experience with Cymcap, ETAP, PowerFactory and power system modelling tools.
- Experience with PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, ArcGIS or other design software.
- Fluent English - spoken and written.
- Full Driving license.

Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Masters in Power Systems Engineering or related field
