Communications Manager, APAC
What You’ll do
Lightsource bp APAC is active in multiple markets with a substantial pipeline of solar PV and battery energy storage projects. As the business grows through greenfield developments, co-developments, divestments and M&A opportunities, we are expanding our renewables portfolio and pursuing new avenues such as onshore wind, co-location and enhanced battery energy storage.
This role will support the team in delivering brand awareness and communications campaigns across established and emerging markets, with an emphasis on Taiwan, South Korea and Japan. It requires an adaptable and practical communicator who can handle regional nuances, operate effectively across multiple time zones and integrate local cultural considerations into all aspects of communications and marketing activities.
Core responsibilities
• Work alongside new market teams and regional development teams to identify requirements and formulate content and brand awareness strategies for each market.
• Follow internal processes and contribute to an inclusive team culture that promotes seamless collaboration.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, managing and influencing across different seniority levels in varied cultural contexts.
• Coordinate with wider stakeholders including bp to sustain consistent messaging and optimise channel impact.
• Implement and maintain a clear reporting and tracking system for marketing and communications activities, continually reviewing targets, deadlines and progress.
• Plan and deliver communication strategies around project development, construction and operation, working closely with both internal teams and external partners.
• Serve as an advocate for marketing and communications to regional teams, helping them understand and adopt best practices.
• Manage media relations, including selecting and onboarding agencies, pitching stories, fielding queries and drafting press releases and briefing materials.
• Engage and supervise local agencies and partners—press, digital, events, design—to meet all campaign needs.
• Advise on crisis communications plans to handle sensitive issues or emergencies in a timely, consistent and culturally appropriate manner.
• Ensure compliance with local regulations, media landscapes and communication norms in each market, maintaining alignment with corporate standards and local legal requirements.
• Manage and update local websites as well as project-specific sites as needed.
• Oversee country-specific social media content, liaising with the corporate team for Lightsource bp’s global accounts.
• Plan and implement marketing events, lead generation activities, local openings or launches, and community engagement initiatives, working closely with local stakeholders to foster positive relationships and raise brand awareness in each region.
• Provide internal communications support to in-country teams, ensuring consistent regional messages.
• Prepare presentations and briefing documents, ensuring accuracy and alignment with Lightsource bp guidelines.
• Explore fresh, creative ideas that raise Lightsource bp’s profile within local markets.
• Handle project-related administration, including purchase orders, invoice reviews and document filing.
• Track and manage relevant budgets, reporting on expenditure and progress regularly.
• Analyse, measure and report on key metrics, such as campaign performance and lead generation, to drive continuous improvement and demonstrate the value of communications activities.
Who we’re looking for
Knowledge
• Strong language capability: Proficiency in English is essential; fluency in Mandarin, Korean, or Japanese is highly preferred, with an aptitude for tailoring communications to different cultural contexts.
• Cultural awareness: Demonstrated ability to adapt communication strategies to local norms and regulatory frameworks across key markets, ensuring messages resonate effectively with diverse audiences.
• Energy-sector awareness: Ideally has a basic familiarity with the renewables and broader energy landscape, including solar, battery energy storage and wind.
• Agile content creation: Skilled at developing concise, engaging, and on-trend materials for multiple channels (digital, social, etc.).
• Effective problem-solving: Able to interpret briefs, devise appropriate solutions, and address stakeholder needs proactively.
• Stakeholder liaison: Comfortable gathering input from various levels of the organisation, ensuring clarity and alignment.
• Team player: Contributes to a supportive, inclusive environment and motivates colleagues to produce consistent, quality outputs.
• Crisis communication awareness: Able to support or lead efforts in crisis response for both internal and external audiences, drafting reactive statements and proactively minimising risks.
• Digital savvy: Familiar with digital communication tools, trends, and KPIs to measure outreach and effectiveness.
• Media engagement: Some experience in building relationships with journalists and securing media coverage.
• Adaptability: Manages priorities across different time zones and project demands, maintaining a self-motivated, flexible approach.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree: Ideally in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Industry exposure: Relevant academic or professional background showcasing an interest in the renewables or energy sector.
• Professional skill set: Proven ability to plan, implement, and evaluate marketing and communications campaigns across different platforms.
Experience
• 3–5 years in communications/marketing: Demonstrable track record supporting or leading campaigns, particularly in complex or multinational contexts.
• Media relations: Experience working with journalists at regional or local levels, preparing press materials, and handling media queries.
• Collaboration across functions: Ability to partner effectively with internal teams (e.g., development, planning, community engagement) and external agencies to ensure project alignment.
• Performance measurement: Familiarity with analysing campaign metrics and reporting results, using insights to drive continuous improvement.
• Multi-country/regional scope: Prior experience working in APAC or other international markets, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and flexibility with time zones.
