Purpose of the role
To lead and deliver Lightsource bp’s commercial strategy in the Brazilian renewable energy market by driving power origination, offtake negotiations, portfolio revenue optimisation, and market positioning to maximise asset value and commercial returns. This role combines revenue-focused portfolio management with broader commercial responsibilities that include identifying new market opportunities, structuring innovative offtake contracts, and cultivating strong relationships with key stakeholders across the energy value chain.
Duties and responsibilities
• Develop, lead, and execute innovative and bespoke offtake and commercial strategies tailored to the Brazilian renewables market, encompassing Corporate and Utility PPAs, government auctions, bilateral contracts, and other complex structures.
• Take ownership of contract negotiations and deal closure for power purchase agreements and commercial transactions with utilities, corporate buyers, traders, government bodies, and other market participants.
• Proactively identify and evaluate new commercial opportunities, tenders, and emerging market segments to expand Lightsource bp’s business footprint and revenue streams in Brazil.
• Monitor and actively manage energy exposure and portfolio revenues of operational assets, applying market intelligence, generation forecasts, and price analysis to optimise commercial outcomes.
• Design and implement integrated short and mid-term market positioning and hedging strategies aligned to internal risk policy and governance requirements to revenue maximise revenues.
• Lead operational market activities including settlements, invoicing, market registrations, and regulatory compliance with CCEE, ANEEL, and other authorities. (AM?)
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including legal, structured finance, commercial management, and market intelligence teams to secure bankable and innovative contractual solutions.
• Build and maintain trusted and strategic relationships with a network of external stakeholders such as regulators, corporate buyers, utilities, energy traders, brokers, consultants, and government entities supporting commercial and portfolio activities to maximise value delivery.
• Conduct detailed market analysis, scenario planning, portfolio performance reviews, and risk assessments to support decision-making and enhance commercial returns.
Knowledge & Experience
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in commercial origination, negotiation, and energy market portfolio revenue optimisation within the Brazilian power sector.
• Demonstrable expertise in structuring and negotiating complex, bespoke offtake agreements and commercial power contracts beyond standard PPAs.
• Deep familiarity with Brazilian power market regulatory frameworks including auction mechanisms relevant to renewables.
• Strong commercial acumen combined with analytical skills in risk management, market positioning, and financial optimisation of power portfolios.
• Proven ability to build and sustain influential relationships with diverse stakeholders across different business units.
• Excellent communication skills in Portuguese and English, both written and spoken.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and experience working with energy market data and portfolio management systems.
• Willingness to travel as required to engage with stakeholders and market events.
