What You’ll do (the role)
This role will play a key role in supporting participation in the power markets to enable the delivery of Lightsource bp’s development activity in Europe. Collaborating with the wider Power Marketing Team and Development origination activity to support the commercial goals and objectives including pipeline development, auction participation, route to market contracting, and understanding regulatory and practical aspects of dispatching power in the market.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
• Track future developments with respect to wholesale market regulation, ancillary services, design and metering, etc.
• Run RfPs for Route to Market contracts of the off-take for renewable and BESS projects, including uncontracted environmental attributes minimising basis risk to any virtual PPAs or CFDs.
• Support on pricing and contractual terms of potential deal structures for our renewable and BESS pipeline. Interact with utilities to keep track of developments in the PPA market and evolving innovative solutions for power marketing to support development of the Lightsource bp RES pipeline.
• Understand metering, data flows and other key aspects of dispatching and scheduling power and develop processes to support our activities in the market with the relevant teams.
• Support the process and managing the accreditation process for securing environmental attributes for projects.
• Support structuring and negotiation of corporate and utility PPAs and other power sales activity.
• Follow and understand the RES and BESS auctions and support the development of bidding strategy and engagement in contracts.
• Monitor and deliver all obligations, conditions precedent and commercial operations requirements from execution to operation to ensure successful commencement of offtake arrangements, including any ancillary agreements and activities required to achieve this.
• Manage handover of PPA documentation to support transition of responsibility to Asset Management
• Build pipeline of Corporate PPA opportunities with key renewables energy buyers in Europe working with others in the team including the Head of Strategic Partnerships.
• Identifying and responding to tenders for renewable energy from Corporate offtakers.
Who we’re looking for
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Mandatory/Required
• 3-5 yrs. of industry experience, with strong internal stakeholder and external market engagement.
• Strong understanding of fundamental drivers in the European power markets
• Good knowledge of the Italian electricity market and European energy policy and regulation in relation to renewables, BESS and PPAs
• Familiar with power purchase agreements and other energy sales structures.
• Familiar with RES auctions, environmental attributes, embedded benefits, , capacity market, tollings and other relevant sources of value for a renewable or storage project.
• Proficient in MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Experience in negotiating PPAs with utility off-takers
Preferred
• Understanding of metering and connection protocols for solar pv with focus on how this interfaces with the route to market and dispatch activity.
• Strong project and process management skills with experience managing multiple teams on simultaneous projects.
• Understanding of energy price risk management and hedging approaches
• Solid track record in structuring, negotiation and execution of deals with commercial approach.
