What You’ll do (the role)           



As Senior Environmental Planner, you will play an extremely important role in the exciting journey of establishing Lightsource bp’s presence in Germany. You will be working with skilled and talented colleagues in a young, dynamic, international, and diverse company.

You will be leading on the environmental and permitting processes for our development pipeline of solar farms across Germany. This will include inputting into key decisions on site selection and individual project strategies. Team collaboration is essential, and you will work closely with other internal teams, including business development, engineering, design, construction, asset management and structured finance.

You will also be part of the wider global environmental planning community at Lightsource bp, with the opportunity to get involved in company level initiatives that interest you.


Duties and Responsibilities


  • Leading the environmental assessments for solar projects in Germany (from site selection and pre-feasibility through to ready-to-build and operation).
  • Providing expert advice to inform decision-making and strategy on site selection, EIAs, planning applications and stakeholder engagement.
  • Managing external consultants and advisors ensuring deliverables are on time and expected quality.
  • Coordinate with internal team members throughout the development, construction and operational phases on all environmental and planning matters.
  • Providing input to internal handovers at Construction and Operation to ensure environmental, social and planning obligations are accurately implemented and monitored.
  • Interact, develop and maintain strong working relationships with JV partners, key stakeholders and decision-making authorities.
  • Actively support and attend stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Actively feed into the solar farm design process, carefully considering, and understanding the landscape and biodiversity mitigation and enhancement measures.
  • Undertaking feasibility / site selection analysis including performing desk top assessments, utilising in-house GIS system and undertaking site visits.
  • Supporting technical due diligence on environmental & social aspects
  • Be active in understanding relevant policies, implications and remedies


Knowledge & Experience


  • Extensive experience in environmental planning (7+) – ideally with in house or consultancy experience in Germany.
  • Experience in ground mount solar PV or other renewable energy/infrastructure projects in Germany.
