What you’ll do (the role)

Duration: 1 June – 21 August 2026 (12 weeks)
Location: London (Hybrid Working – 3 days per week in office)
Summary
An opportunity for a final-year law student, law graduate, or non-law graduate who has completed the GDL or passed SQE1 to join a fast-paced and dynamic in-house legal team.
Duties and Responsibilities
We will provide the successful candidate with an introduction to the different departments, roles and processes within the legal team, an overview of the wider business and how the legal team interacts with it, as well as an overview of the lifecycle of solar projects. We will also provide training on the contracts we use for our projects, our business and other ancillary documents.
Some of duties and responsibilities of the role are included below:
- Providing general support on the day-to-day business of the wider legal team (Development & Transactions, Projects, Finance and Corporate/Commercial) and liaising with internal stakeholders as and when required
- Attending weekly team meetings discussing legal team news and developments, the status and progress of transactions and other internal workstreams
- Assisting with the legal review and preparation of contracts and ancillary documents (e.g. board resolutions) for the different departments in the legal team. Examples include: intercompany loan agreements, non-disclosure agreements, consultancy agreements, commercial contracts, transaction documents, construction agreements, etc.
- Assisting with contract signing process and other required formalities
- Assisting with the development of internal precedents and knowledge
- Legal writing and research and preparation of memos
- Undertaking any other related duties as may be required
Why you’ll make a great member of the team
Knowledge
- Either:
- Final year law student or law graduate (LLB/BA degree in law)
- Non-law degree graduate who has passed the GDL or SQE1
- An interest in and general understanding of renewables and solar energy
- Familiarity with English law, legal procedures and standards
- Broad knowledge of day-to-day operations of an in-house legal team and legal processes
- Excellent English language skills
- Good Microsoft Office knowledge
- An interest in AI tools and their practical application within an in-house legal context
Personal qualities
- Excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication and organisation skills and record keeping
- A proactive and ‘can-do’ attitude and strong willingness to learn
- Attention to detail and a focus on delivering work to a high standard
- Team player, working collaboratively with members of the legal team and internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to understand and contribute to the objectives of the legal team as well as all other business units within Lightsource bp
- Ability to work well under pressure and to manage conflicting deadlines
