What you’ll do (the role)

Summary

You will support the Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) Geospatial team in the processing and management of mapping content to support geospatial activities.

You will gain experience in the tools a Geospatial professional use to conduct daily tasks, and develop skills applying GIS processes to support the development of renewable energy projects.

The work carried out will contribute to the central management and analysis of geospatial data, and provide new insights to the business through data delivery and visualisation.

The intern will join the LSbp Geospatial team in London and actively contribute to spatial data management, analysis and web mapping to support geospatial support for Development. Key areas of activities may include:

  • Enhancing and optimizing ETL data workflows to efficiently manage data within the central geospatial database
  • Maintaining comprehensive metadata within the geospatial database to ensure data integrity
  • Sourcing, organizing, and uploading project survey data and layouts for web-based mapping applications
  • Testing and evaluating the functionality and performance of web mapping tools
  • Assisting with GIS-based site suitability analysis to support project planning and decision-making

The following are two projects that would be assigned as part of the internship:

  • Updating and Applying ETL Tools to refresh Geospatial Data Libraries - The intern will support the continuous improvement of data quality by updating and applying ETL workflows to maintain and enhance the geospatial data libraries. This project will provide valuable hands-on experience in data management and workflow optimization, while enabling LSbp teams better access to high-quality spatial data. The intern would gain experience in the use of an industry standard tool, FME.

  • Testing New Web Mapping Functionality with ESRI Experience Builder - The intern will explore and test the capabilities of new web mapping technology, focusing on Esri’s Experience Builder platform. This project will generate valuable insights for the LSbp geospatial team regarding the platform’s features and usability, which in turn will support the deployment of more effective and user-friendly web mapping solutions for the business.  The intern will gain valuable experience in the use of the latest ESRI GIS functionality.
