What you’ll do (the role)
Summary
This role will play a key role in developing and delivering the power market strategy for the region. You will sit on the global leadership team of the CCO. You will be a member of the leadership team for the EMEA region, with dotted reporting line to regional COO and responsible for management of the power markets team in the region.
The Director of Power Markets EMEA heads the power marketing team and has the responsibility for identifying market opportunities and creating business models to maximize value creation opportunity for the development pipeline of solar pv, onshore wind and BESS projects as well as operational assets.
Duties and responsibilities
- Support all activities in the region in relation to the power markets and revenue for onshore renewables and BESS including electricity, RECs/GOs and associated contracts and attributes.
- Management of the power market analysis activity within Lightsource bp for EMEA. Including responsibility for assumptions for revenue ensuring alignment and consistency with bp group wide energy market assumptions.
- Responsible for developing and implementing the power marketing strategy, collaborating with the team, to achieve the optimal balance of contracted and merchant revenues. You will bring enthusiasm, innovation and expertise to supercharge the team and move with the developing market.
- Understand developments in the power markets and energy policy and the impact these will have on power markets and flexibility opportunities including storage in order to keep Lightsource bp at the forefront of the market. Leverage this to develop creative solutions to drive value and help shape the future business model in the region.
- To be Lightsource bp’s champion and voice in the power markets including engaging with partners, industry bodies, policy makers and the market to support our activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, such as technical storage, finance, engineering and construction across the broader organization to manage opportunities strategically.
- Close collaboration with the country heads in the region to help develop the strategy for pipeline growth understand in the offtake opportunity.
- Collaborate with structured finance in relation to divestment/Asset Co and funding strategy to align to market opportunities.
- Engaging with regional bp S,T&S power team effectuating joined up approach to market and inclusion with S,T&S/wider bp where appropriate.
- Ensuring regulatory compliance: Responsible for ensuring that the company complies with all relevant energy market related regulations in the relevant regions e.g. REMIT and EMIR in full compliance with internal bp regulation. Ensure the regulation rules are consistently applied in LSBP as in bp (or obtain relevant exemptions).
- Provide regular reporting and briefing to CCO on regional power marketing activities and performance on KPIs.
- Support projects to enhance reporting capabilities withing region and as a global function working closely with APAC and US regional heads of power markets.
- Design and implement energy management/revenue optimisation activity in line with the agreed energy risk management policy and procedures and the DOA.
Who we’re looking for
Knowledge
- Comprehensive knowledge of the EMEA power markets is a must along with utility scale renewables experience.
- Multiyear experience of participating in power markets including negotiation of offtake structures such as Power Purchase Agreements, participation in renewable energy support auctions and BESS offtake structures with an understanding of what drives value and risk in alternative offtake structures.
- Successful track record of originating executing complex energy projects and/or transactions.
- Strong good interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills with experience in managing a diverse, international team.
- Experience presenting at many levels including internal and external stakeholders and speaking at events.
- Understanding of how to assess BESS revenue stacks and develop commercial solutions for standalone and hybrid BESS assets.
- Understanding of what drives value in renewables asset development and operation considering the perspective of financing and investors.
Experience
- Working with utilities and corporate offtakers to develop and implement offtake solutions for onshore renewables and BESS.
- Managing teams across multiple markets, ideally engaging in our core EMEA markets;
- Power trading and risk management to support optimization of asset portfolios.
