What You’ll do (the role)

 

Purpose of the role

To develop and implement strategy for offtake for projects in the development pipeline and optimise power monetisation for assets.  Includes origination / sales and negotiation of PPAs and other long-term offtake including complex and new structures and bidding strategy for government auctions.   Multi country approach focused on developing partnership and relationships.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the offtake strategy to enable the development of the pipeline of solar projects in the North and Central European power markets considering the various available routes to market including CPPA, UPPA, auctions baseload hedges, exchange trading and other innovative structures optimising at a portfolio level and taking a hybrid approach where appropriate to maximise value creation in line with the divestment and financing strategy.
  • Note this includes responsibility for all routes to market in certain identified markets plus some pan European relationship management for key utilities and corporate buyers in collaboration with the Head of Strategic Partnerships.
  • Identify and develop market opportunities with major energy offtakers focusing on Poland, UK, the Netherlands, Germany, France and other European locations as agreed.
  • Build interest, identify and secure buyers for Corporate PPAs, including identifying and responding to tenders for renewable energy.
  • Work with suppliers and other market participants to develop innovative routes to market and long-term offtake contracts to secure bankable revenue to support solar development.
  • Develop auction bidding strategies for government auctions where appropriate.
  • Work with the Legal department, Structured Finance and other internal stakeholders to negotiate heads of terms & offtake contracts.
  • Liaise with Structured Finance, Development to create power marketing solutions that optimise funding opportunities and enable project development.
  • Understand developments in the European markets and energy policy and the impact these will have on Power marketing to keep Lightsource BP at the forefront of the market.
  • Help team understand revenue opportunities and procure agreements to support the development of collocated storage including interaction with PPAs or other routes to market collaborating with the Head of Storage and Flexibility. 
  • May include management of PPA Associate.

 

Knowledge

  • An in depth understanding of the European energy markets including detailed understanding of for PPAs and energy price risk management.
  • A secure understanding of market influences and fundamentals
  • Experience negotiating long term PPAs in European markets.

 

Experience

    • In depth experience of the renewables market with particular focus on energy contracting (PPAs, physical RTM, wholesale markets).
    • Proven track record in delivering large-scale long-term energy solutions
    • Confident and experienced presenting complex propositions at board level

 

Personal Qualities

    • Highly effective verbal and written communications skills in English.  Other European languages (ideally aligned to targets markets Polish, French, Dutch or German) a benefit. 
    • Accomplished at building relationships, negotiating and influencing decisions
    • Highly self-motivated
    • Present yourself with integrity, credibility and professionalism
    • Willing and able to travel in Europe as required
    • Good Experience using CRM systems & MS office
