About Lightsource bp O&M –join Europe’s largest Operations & Maintenance (O&M) fleet and contribute to maintaining our solar plants in optimal operating condition. At Lightsource BP, we're committed to renewable energy and sustainability, and we’re looking for a passionate Ground Maintenance Technician to join our dynamic team.

 

The purpose of the role is to carry out effective ground works on the Lightsource bp ground mounted sites, to help maintain production levels and adhere to planning regulations.

 

What You’ll do (the role)

 

We are looking for a Technical Project Engineer to work within the O&M business. The role holder will be responsible for providing high level technical support to the Lightsource bp Operations and Maintenance (O&M) business primarily in the UK and across the global organisation when required. Additionally, this role will require developing and implementing Operations and Maintenance methodologies and procedures that maximise the performance of Utility Scale Solar PV plants, whist optimising the cost of maintenance. This individual will also be supporting in delivering the scopes of projects to time, quality, and cost.

 

Reporting to the Head of O&M Technical & Project Delivery, the role will require working with the Technical Projects team which will consist of a comms team and a project delivery team.

 

The role holder will be supporting the delivery of services within the contract frameworks which covers both reactive and proactive Solar PV asset investments. The manager will be overseeing larger projects to deliver in a safe, timely and profitable manner. Driving project investment through Additional Works (AW) relating to the O&M services the company provides the client will be such as (but not limited to):

 

  • Mechanical and electromechanical works
  • Site performance improvement works
  • Civil Works
  • Punch list works

 

This individual will support the operational and technical oversight of our renewable energy projects. While SCADA experience is preferred, we welcome candidates with a strong technical background and a willingness to learn and work with our systems used to monitor and optimise plant performance.

 

The role will be UK based and will require some travel to sites within the UK.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

 

  • This professional individual is required to collaborate closely with the regional teams, HSE, HV, Monitoring, Planning and Asset Management to deliver project outputs.
  • Be an integral part of a broader team supporting with business cases for investment and providing comprehensive scopes and quotes for work packages.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of technical faults related to inverters, modules, SCADA and CCTV
  • Assist in managing warranty claims and liaising with equipment suppliers and contractors for repair or replacement.
  • Monitor plant performance using SCADA and other monitoring systems, coordinate with technical teams for issue resolution.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts and support the implementation of new technical solutions, including SCADA enhancements.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment, control systems, and field devices to maintain reliable operation.
  • Consult with internal teams and contractors to ensure work meets quality, safety, and timeline requirements.

 

Who we’re looking for

 

Mandatory/Required

 

  • Degree or professional qualification preferably in relevant engineering discipline.  (Electrical engineering would be of advantage).
  • 1-3 years of experience in technical roles within energy, utilities, or industrial sectors.
  • Prior exposure to SCADA systems is preferred but not mandatory. Willingness to develop skills in SCADA operation and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of solar PV system components, O&M practices, and project management principles.
  • Solid problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues effectively.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety standards, grid codes, and environmental compliance.

 

General Skills & Attributes

 

  • Excellent communication skills, being able to communicate at all levels, both internally within the region and the department, as well as with clients and externals.
  • High level of technical knowledge within the engineering functions, a comprehensive understanding of asset classes (Tx’s, switchgear, inverters etc.)
  • Being Health and Safety aware, and able to take responsibility for project delivery compliance
  • Able to meet deadlines and able to prioritize work accordingly.
  • Good IT skills – Microsoft, SV, QuickBase etc.
  • Project Management abilities an advantage
  • Adhere to the company values through a “Can-do” positive attitude.
  • Strong collaboration skills.
  • Attention to detail and strong understanding of your agreements.
  • Negotiation with both internal and external parties.
