What You’ll do (the role)

 

Summary

 

You will be one of the senior members of the Projects team working closely on a day to day basis with the Head of Projects and Power Markets Team to deliver our targets.

 

You will be expected to manage transactions with limited supervision within deadlines and to work effectively with external counsel. 

 

As part of the LSbp legal team you will be expected to implement and monitor compliance with the LSbp internal compliance framework and corporate approvals policies.  You should demonstrate an understanding on how to manage targets while managing project level, legal and compliance risk.

 

Opportunities will also arise:

 

  • to work closely with the Power Markets Team, Business Development Team, Construction and Grid Teams, Procurement, Operation and Maintenance and Asset Management teams
  • to become involved in other areas of law where business needs arise

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • As a primary duty, supporting the power market teams globally, including working on:
  • Reviewing and commenting on IC/CEM papers for the power market projects, ensuring their compliance with LSbp corporate approvals policies
  • Managing external lawyers for power market projects
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating PPAs, including long term corporate PPAs, private wire PPAs and utility PPAs
  • Structuring, and assisting with the battery storage projects and negotiating related battery project agreements
  • Advising the business on the regulatory matters related to LSbp energy projects
  • Assisting with RFP processes for tender or auction opportunities
  • Assisting with public consultations relating to energy regulation
  • Assisting with new technologies such as hydrogen, wind
  • Assisting to understand energy regulatory frameworks in new markets
  • Creating and maintaining power markets knowledge bank, creating and improving templates
  • Aligning PPAs with financing arrangements and construction and O&M agreements

Supervising junior members of the team;

 

Supporting development of best practice including template agreements, project analysis tools and joining team training events;

 

  • Analysing legal issues on entering new markets, engaging local counsel and preparing reports on legal and regulatory frameworks;
  • Reviewing, negotiating and advising on key project agreements and financing requirements including EPC, O&M, asset management and grid sharing agreements together with other members of the Projects team;
  • Liaising with all other internal business teams including business development, structured finance, technical, delivery, grid, procurement, asset management and operation and maintenance;
  • Supporting the asset management business with any energy regulatory matters arising with portfolio under management; and
  • Ensuring compliance with internal compliance framework and corporate approvals policies.

Who we’re looking for

 

Experience

 

  • 5 years+ Post Qualification Experience
  • Experience gained in leading international / mid to top tier firms or senior in-house position
  • Confidence and capability to advise senior management team directly
  • Ability to deal confidently and build strong relations with senior business colleagues
  • Flexible attitude and the ability to multi task. Strong time management / prioritisation skills
  • Strong English verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong business acumen with ability to assess legal risk and commercial / practical considerations
  • Excellent technical drafting skills and familiarity with the documents and types of work covered in the ‘Duties and responsibilities’ section of this job description

Knowledge

 

Preference for candidates with:

 

  • Experience in the solar, wind, BESS or other renewable energy and infrastructure sector;
  • Experience in PPAs and energy tenders and auctions;
  • Experience in energy regulation;
  • Experience instructing and managing external/local counsel;
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating EPC Contracts, O&M agreements and supply contracts; and
  • Familiarity with project financed power/infrastructure assets.
