About the Role

The Commercial Engineering Summer Intern will support the U.S. Commercial Engineering team in advancing our pipeline of solar and energy storage projects. This internship provides hands-on experience in design review, technical analysis, and engineering process optimization, all of which are essential to ensuring our projects meet both technical and commercial standards.

Interns will collaborate with experienced engineers to evaluate design deliverables, analyze project data, identify compliance requirements, and improve engineering workflows. This role offers valuable exposure to how renewable energy projects progress from early concept through detailed design and development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support design review activities by verifying that engineering deliverables meet project criteria and technical specifications
  • Conduct data analysis and gap analysis to identify compliance requirements, permitting obligations, and equipment specifications
  • Assist in validating that project designs align with permit conditions and regulatory requirements
  • Support engineering process optimization initiatives to improve workflow efficiency
  • Develop or enhance data analysis and visualization tools using Python, MATLAB, or similar programming languages
  • Compile and organize technical documentation, design packages, and project data to support ongoing design reviews
  • Participate in design review meetings and contribute data-driven insights to engineering discussions
  • Document findings, recommendations, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement in project delivery

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited engineering degree program (junior or senior year preferred) in one of the following:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Civil or Environmental Engineering
    • Energy Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering

Experience & Knowledge

  • Familiarity with renewable energy development, solar technology, or energy storage systems (coursework or project experience acceptable)
  • Understanding of engineering design standards and technical specifications
  • Exposure to design review methodologies
  • Basic knowledge of permitting requirements or regulatory frameworks relevant to renewable energy projects
  • Experience organizing and analyzing technical or engineering data

Skills

  • Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or equivalent for reviewing engineering drawings
  • Familiarity with GIS or geospatial analysis tools for site assessment and project mapping
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Programming or scripting ability in Python, MATLAB, or similar languages
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies or gaps in technical documentation

Internship Details

  • Start Date: Early June 2026
  • End Date: Early August 2026
  • Length: Approximately 10 weeks
  • Schedule: ~40 hours per week
  • Compensation: $20 per hour
  • Work Arrangement: Hybrid — interns must work three days per week in the office in Austin, Denver, or San Francisco.
