Director, Marketing & Communications, USA

What You’ll do 
We are looking for a brilliant leader and experienced marketing and communications professional to work closely with the Senior Vice President of Government Relations & Environmental Affairs and the executive team to contribute to the growth and success of our company along with the growth and success of our people. The Director/Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, USA, will partner closely with the Global Head of Marketing and Communications to ensure consistent brand identity, as well as share best practices and tools leveraged globally.
The Director/Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, USA, will own Lightsource bp’s brand and image in the United States. They will create and own the region’s overall marketing and communications strategy and cultivate its public image to gain market share and inspire confidence in customers, tackling the challenges of developing communications strategies that help build employee culture and engagement as well as brand recognition. Top candidates will be skilled at developing strategies for content that both engages employees and helps further our business objectives, identifying areas of growth and improvement, working with internal and external team members including bp.
The Director/Senior Director of Marketing and Communications, USA, for Lightsource bp will be responsible for owning, defining and executing the following marketing and communications duties for existing and new regions falling within the remit of the COO of the USA:
•    Marketing and communications strategies to support development and corporate goals
•    Support in the creation of content strategies that build corporate culture, employee engagement, and brand recognition – regionally focused, within the overall global brand framework set by the Global Head of Marketing and Communications
•    Support in building corporate culture for the United States, aligned with our global sustainability ethos and corporate core values
•    Internal communications specific to the region, closely coordinating with the central internal communications team
•    Support in employer branding and engagement
•    Media relations
•    Crisis communication and reputation management
•    Educating communities on the benefits of renewable energy projects, including combatting misinformation
•    Digital communication channels including USA website, social media, digital advertising, video marketing, email marketing, organic search (SEO), paid search (SEM), display ads
•    Public relations and relationship building with the media, customers, partners, and communities
•    Robust reporting and tracking systems to ensure targets and deadlines are met, in addition to measuring the effectiveness of marketing and communications strategy and initiatives
•    Building, retaining and fostering a strong marketing and communications team in the United States
•    Maintaining and reporting on budgets
•    Provides supervision over assigned communications team members
Who we’re looking for     

Knowledge
•    An agile communicator 
•    A good understanding of the energy landscape in the United States and the global role of onshore renewable energy within the future energy mix
•    Consciousness around the changing trends in communication and how to continue creating engaging content
•    Ability to adapt and work in a highly diverse cultural environment with team members who are field, office and home based
•    Practical and proactive problem solving by being able to interpret briefs and develop suitable solutions for stakeholders
•    Being able to articulate briefs from all levels of the organization
•    A flexible, engaging, self-motivated approach to work, understanding how to balance workload and priorities across various time zones
•    Motivating a team to remain agile while producing quality and meaningful communications
•    A writer that does not fear brevity
•    A deep understanding of digital communication trends, tools and KPIs 
•    Ability to lead crisis response efforts for internal and external audiences, including developing reactive media statements and mitigating risk through development and execution of a proactive crisis playbook
•    Experienced at winning media coverage, establishing and then fostering media relationships, and being the trusted voice of an organization
Qualifications
•    Bachelor’s degree preferred, along with extensive experience in marketing and communications
•    Renewables energy industry experience required
•    A proven track record of marketing and communications success, with a varied and advanced marketing skill set
Experience

Must have relevant experince in the renewable energy sector
•    8+ years working in a senior leadership role, within Marketing and Communications
•    10+ years team management experience to include internal team members and external suppliers
•    10+ years of writing content to include blogs, press releases, thought leadership articles and social media posts
•    5+ years experience dealing with journalists both on national and local levels
