What you'll do:

Lightsource bp seeks a senior manager of  government affairs. The position reports to, and works closely with, the director of government affairs in the US to help develop and execute state and federal government advocacy strategy that informs business decisions for our growing U.S. portfolio. 

The senior manager of government affairs role requires coordination with both internal and external business partners. 

Internal activities include servant-leadership and collaboration with teams across the company to: increase company-wide situational awareness of, mitigate risk from, and coordinate responses to policy opportunities and risks. 

External activities include engaging with policy makers, trade associations, and other industry and community partners to develop and represent Lightsource bp policy positions. 

Regular travel around the country for site visits, community information events, and meetings with local, state and federal government officials will be required.

Duties and responsibilities:
   
•    Help develop company legislative agenda and priorities.
•    In coordination with internal SMEs, track, analyze and respond to proposed state and federal policy that impacts Lightsource bp
•    Ensure that external-facing functions of company are aligned on policy messaging and strategy.
•    Develop and execute internal communications strategies to foster team-relevant situational awareness of policy proposals that impact Lightsource bp 
•    Represent company in and manage engagement with regional trade groups and their member-companies.
•    Conduct state and federal policy advocacy with trade associations and policy makers
•    Build relationships with key state officials to advance legislative and regulatory agenda. 
•    Provide, or coordinate internal SME, testimony in legislative processes.
•    Manage and execute consultants and lobbyists as needed in key markets.

PERSONAL SKILLS

Knowledge:  Applicants should have a broad working knowledge of state and federal policy as it relates to renewable energy. Commercial awareness / development experience will also be of benefit. 

Work Skills: Excellent communication and public speaking skills required. 

General Skills/Attributes: Strong written and verbal skills are critical for liaising with multiple internal and external parties. 

Experience Required: A minimum of 5 years in governmental affairs or similar role, with preference for experience in energy industry.  Experience working in various states across the US, including challenging markets.

Education and Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree preferred.
