What You’ll do (the role)

SUMMARY

As Senior Asset Manager you will lead all asset management activities in New Zealand for a growing portfolio of large scale solar and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets.

Working with the Head of Asset Management APAC, you will agree and implement the NZ asset management strategy, act as the day-to-day point of contact for local stakeholders, and work with the APAC team to ensure consistent, high quality service delivery across the portfolio

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Lead all asset management activities in New Zealand, ensuring alignment with APAC strategy and local regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the primary local contact for landowners, regulatory authorities, network service providers, EPC contractors, O&M providers and other stakeholders.
  • Prepare annual budgets, monitor spend against forecasts, approve variances and implement cost control measures.
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to coordinate delivery, resolve issues, and align priorities across the asset lifecycle.
  • Oversee operational delivery and contractual performance of EPC and O&M contractors, ensuring compliance with contract terms and timely resolution of issues.
  • Prepare and deliver regular asset management reporting for internal stakeholders, lenders, regulators and market operators.
  • Collaborate with the APAC asset management team to develop, implement and roll out systems, standard policies, procedures and systems to support scalable service delivery.
  • Drive process automation and administrative efficiency to reduce manual workload and improve data quality and transparency.

Education & Knowledge Required

  • Educated to Degree level in a subject applicable in the renewable industry, preferably engineering.
  • Strong understanding of key contracts and the critical stakeholders involved.
  • Good knowledge of the New Zealand energy market.
  • Understanding of the financial and commercial aspects of projects, including revenue drivers, and cost control measures.
  • Knowledge of the solar (and preferably BESS) asset lifecycle
  • Technical knowledge of utility scale solar PV and BESS operations.
  • Strong process focus and technical IT skills

 

Experience Required

  • 7 years of experience working in operations management, preferably in the solar/BESS market
  • The ideal candidate may have worked for financial investors active in the renewable space internationally, and IPP or a vertically integrated developer
  • The ideal candidate will have proven track record managing EPC and O&M obligations

  • Able to work efficiently and effectively under the pressure of tight deadlines
  • Fluency in English is essential
  • Effective track record in managing successfully sites from remote location
  • Process oriented
  • Strong technical IT skills (Excel, SCADA, PowerBI, etc.)
  • Able to visit project sites across New Zealand as required and travel to the Lightsource bp office in Sydney.
  • Ideally based in Auckland.
